Golden Gardens Habitat Guardians are soon to learn about how the app, iNaturalist, works. This app is a unique platform where anyone can submit photos of plants, animals, insects, fungi – basically, all the living things on earth. The app’s “computer vision” often suggests a name for a photo that you might upload. Experts from the community then see your photo and confirm the identity. If this gets shared with the wider scientific community, your photo is labeled “RESEARCH GRADE” – and then will become useful to scientists/researchers around the world.
See this short YouTube video from CBS “Sunday Morning” on the use of iNaturalist: “How a fun nature app aids science”.
